About

Sourdough isn't a hobby. It's a practice. Sometimes it's a punishment. Mostly it's both.

Our story started with a tiny toy oven, a seven-year-old with ambitions, and a neighbourhood full of kids willing to risk second degree burns for a warm, usually overbaked cookie. 🍪 Cookies led to baking. Baking led to bread. Bread led here because once sourdough gets into your head, there's really no coming back.

And sourdough has made me learn the art of making bread three times. Once as a flatlander, where everything worked and I didn't know how lucky I was. Once after moving to a city with elevation and a dry climate, where every recipe I trusted suddenly fell flat. 😑 And once more after my body decided gluten was the enemy which, for a sourdough baker, is a plot twist nobody asks for.

So now I feed my starter brown rice flour. I experiment. I have too many favourite discard recipes with no regrets. 👩🏻‍🍳

Because somewhere between your third failed loaf and your first real ear, you stop wanting a shirt that says 'I Loaf You' and start wanting one that actually reflects where you are in this practice.

Although, we do Loaf You a lot. 😉
